Leonard continued working on the man until he started breathing again. His pulse was still thready, however, so he was glad when the ambulance appeared. The paramedics seemed happy enough to let him direct things, handing him equipment as he asked for it.
Once he was stable, he let the paramedics get him onto a hovergurney and steer him into the ambulance before looking over at Tonia. When she told him to go to the hospital with him, he nodded.
"All right. Thank you, darlin'," he told her. He leaned over and kissed her softly, resting his forehead to hers for a few moments before pulling away to climb into the ambulance.
As they headed toward the nearby hospital, one of the paramedics got out a fingerprint reader and held it to the man's forefinger so they could identify him.
"James Tiberius Kirk," the paramedic told Leonard before giving him a PADD with the medical information that popped up.
Leonard saw the birth record and let out a low whistle. "Holy shit, that was you."
"Who?" the paramedic asked.
"The kid who was born when the U.S.S. Kelvin was destroyed." When the paramedic gave him a blank look, he shook his head. "Never mind."
He knew of it, of course, because his mother had been a reporter. He then started reading it before looking over at him, seeing the list of hospitalizations. "Damn, kid. What in the hell's been going on your life?"
Once they arrived at the hospital, Leonard followed inside, filling the doctors that met them on what had happened.
