How to Save a Life (RP with [livejournal.com profile] doesntdosheep & <user site="livejou

Life was very, very good for Leonard McCoy.

Not that long ago, he had thought that his life was basically over. Everything had been taken away from him, and all it seemed he had left was drink. Which he had been more than happy to drown himself in.

But then Tonia had come into his life. Now he had his daughter, his home, his practice and her. Even if she hadn't literally been an a guardian angel sent to him, he would have thought her one anyway. She was his angel and always would be. Because of her, he was actually living again.

"Bye, Daddy! Love you!"

"Bye, sweetheart," Leonard said with a smile after giving Joanna a hug and kissing her head.

Standing back, he then watched as his daughter climbed on the school bus. Once she was seated, the driver pulled away from the end of the drive leading to their cabin. Leonard watched as the bus disappeared down the road, a smile spreading across his face as Joanna waved to him through the back window. He waved back, so glad that she was happy at her new school and thriving.

Once the bus was gone, he turned to head up the drive back up to the cabin, barely registering the sound of a motorcycle coming around the curve down the road.

Well, Leonard certainly wasn't going to argue with that assessment. He was sure that that having that happen was an entirely unique feeling unto itself, but at least he as going to be okay.

And as he started to explain what had happened, what he had seen in his medical records started to make a lot of sense. Abuse. All the classic signs. He hoped that they were able to get the bastard for attempted murder because it was obvious that this had been going on for far too long.

"You crashed near our home," Leonard told him. "We heard you go into the tree, so I went to help ya while Tonia called the ambulance. Good thing too. God knows how long it might've been since you were found, otherwise."

He didn't, of course, tell him that he'd been told it was important that he help him, for whatever reason. The kid had been through enough that day.

"Do you want us to see if we can track down your mom?" he asked since he had said he had been leaving to go find her.

Tonia shook her head, not believing someone could be so cruel to another human being. It was something she often pondered it but could never find an answer to her questions. Of course, not all people were bad. Leonard was proof of that.

"Thanks for finding me," Jim quietly said as he shifted in the bed. He then furrowed his brow and was quiet for a moment. "I think...yeah. Could you try to find her for me? I don't want her going back to the house."

"Do you have a number?" Tonia asked as she pulled out her PADD.

Once Jim had given her one, she dialed it. After a few moments, a woman answered. Tonia explained to her that Jim had been in an accident and was in the hospital. After speaking to her for a few moments, Tonia ended the call and went back to the bed.

"She said she'll be here soon," she said.

"Thank you," Jim said with a painful smile.

Winona could barely see out of her swollen right eye as she brought her vehicle to a stop outside where her son was living now after hours of driving around, not sure what to do. Her hands were still shaking as she held on to the wheel almost afraid to let go. She had no idea what she was going to say to Jim when she saw him.

Maybe she should start with an apology.

Finally getting out of the car, she hurried up to Jim's apartment and rang the doorchime, waiting. There was no answer, though. Just as she was trying to decide whether to stay and wait for him to come home, her PADD suddenly beeped with an incoming call, so she pulled it out to answer, trying to keep her eye out of view.

When the woman on the other told her that Jim had been in an accident, she felt her heart drop and was immediately on her way out to the car again.

Soon, she was arriving at the hospital, and when she got inside, a nurse tried to pull her aside to help her, but she waved her off, demanding to know where her son was. Finally, they told her, and she hurried to the room.

"Jim?" she asked as she entered to find him in bed, obviously just having been through hell. The woman who had called her and a man in scrubs were standing there was well. "What happened? Are you...? Are you going to be okay?"
