Life was very, very good for Leonard McCoy.
Not that long ago, he had thought that his life was basically over. Everything had been taken away from him, and all it seemed he had left was drink. Which he had been more than happy to drown himself in.
But then Tonia had come into his life. Now he had his daughter, his home, his practice and her. Even if she hadn't literally been an a guardian angel sent to him, he would have thought her one anyway. She was his angel and always would be. Because of her, he was actually living again.
"Bye, Daddy! Love you!"
"Bye, sweetheart," Leonard said with a smile after giving Joanna a hug and kissing her head.
Standing back, he then watched as his daughter climbed on the school bus. Once she was seated, the driver pulled away from the end of the drive leading to their cabin. Leonard watched as the bus disappeared down the road, a smile spreading across his face as Joanna waved to him through the back window. He waved back, so glad that she was happy at her new school and thriving.
Once the bus was gone, he turned to head up the drive back up to the cabin, barely registering the sound of a motorcycle coming around the curve down the road.

When Tonia offered to go ahead and take her out to the house so they could get her belongings and get it over with, she nodded in agreement.
"Let's get this over with," she said softly.
Heading out with her to the vehicle, she climbed in and took a deep breath. Soon she was guiding her to the house she had shared with Frank - or more the house she shared with him when she was on Earth. Knowing what had been going on there when she hadn't been around hurt more than she could even say. She had thought she was doing the right thing, continuing to serve after George had died, thinking it was what he would have wanted.
Now, though, she was thinking that she should have stayed. Then she would have known.
When they arrived at the house, Winona took a deep breath and reminded herself that Frank wouldn't be in there. She then went inside with Tonia and quickly started gathering everything together, putting them into several bags. As she emptied one of her drawers, she pulled out a holo of her and George that had been taken while she had been pregnant. Pressing the button to turn it on, she watched them, smiling and laughing as George embraced her from behind, resting her hands over her stomach.
Reaching up, she wiped her eyes.

After some time, Tonia started to get a little worried so she went to find where Winona was. She peeked into the bedroom and saw her watching a holo so she was silent. When it finished, she stepped inside and gave Winona a soft smile.
"Is there anything you need help with?" she asked as she reached out to take her hand into hers, trying her best to comfort her in any way she could. She knew she couldn't change the past but she could be there for her now.
"Does Jim have anything here that he may like?" she quietly asked.

"I think I have everything I want from in here," she said before giving her a bag. "There's a couple of things downstairs I want, and a box of George's things in the basement. There's some things in there that I was to give to Jim."
She had never been able to bring herself to get rid of the things that were in that box, but she had always kept it downstairs out of the way of Frank. She wasn't sure if he even knew it was there.
Going downstairs with her, she set her other bags down. "Could you get the dreamcatcher and the books on the shelf?" she asked. "I'll go get the box."
Going downstairs, she shoved some of Frank's things aside and found the box where she had hidden it. After pulling it out, she picked it up and took it upstairs.
"I think this is everything," she said. "Anything else can be left behind."

"All right. We can drop all of this off at the house, then go back to the hospital," she said, knowing Winona would want to see her son.
It didn't take them long to get to the house. Tonia opened the door and they placed the boxes and bags in the guest bedroom before leaving again. Getting back in the car, Tonia started to drive them toward the hospital.
When they got there, they went back to Jim's room and Tonia smiled before going over to stand with Leonard.
"We got everything needed and took it back to the house," she told him as she reached down to take his hand. "How are the two of you doing?"
"Bones was telling me about his homemade moonshine," Jim said with a smirk.
"Bones?" Tonia said as she raised her eyebrows.
Jim softly shrugged. "I think it fits," he said.

The kid turned out to be a damn good guy despite the things he had been through. Sure, he still had some growing up to do, but Leonard was sure that he was going to be something once he decided where he was going in his life. As they talked, he found that he also appreciated a good drink, so he ended up telling him about his family's moonshine recipe, which of course they all referred to as whiskey so as not to draw attention to it.
"I'll have to get you a bottle or two sometime," he told him just before Tonia and Winona came back.
When Jim called him Bones, he found himself smiling. "I actually kinda like it."
"So how long do you think Jim is going to be in here?" Winona asked as she sat down in one of the other chairs. Leonard was glad to see that the trauma to her eye looked to be completely gone now.
"The end of the week, I think," he told her. "Just want to make sure that he doesn't have any complications."
"That's not too bad," she said.
"You all hungry?" Leonard asked. "I wouldn't want to subject a healing man to hospital food, so maybe we could order something in?"
