Leonard sighed softly as he walked across campus, tugging at the neck of his academy uniform. He still didn't like wearing the damn thing. Not because he disliked Starfleet but because he felt like a damn fool. Moth of the other cadets were at least ten years younger than him, all with their lives ahead of them. And there he was, in his thirties and trying to find a new career path in the one place he'd never thought he go.
Next to them, he felt damned old.
Not that it was was all bad. He'd made friends with Jim, and while he was younger than him, he didn't make him feel ancient - except of course when he wanted to mess with him. Which was every other Friday and occasionally on Tuesday. And because of his medical credentials, he didn't have to take some of the classes the others did, which he was grateful for.
But because he was still technically considered a cadet, he was bound by the same rules and regulations as the rest of them. Which was a real bitch sometimes for so many reasons.
Entering the building, Leonard slowed when he caught sight of someone standing down at the end of the corridor. He gave his uniform top a tug before approaching.
"Captain Pike," he said, giving her a smile. "How are you today?"
